Girls Seaxe Rules

Overarching Seaxe Rules

1.    Except where otherwise agreed, the starting time for an evening match shall be 6pm and for a weekend game shall be no later than 10am. Provided both sides agree before play commences, a match of fewer than the number of overs scheduled under the Rules below may be played. Any team not ready to play 15 minutes after the appointed start time shall forfeit their right to toss. If the match starts at 18 30 or later it should be reduced in length in any case.

2.    A minimum of 7 players should be fielded by a side for the match to constitute a league game (at any age group), otherwise the team fielding fewer than 7 players shall be deemed to have conceded the league match which may instead be played as a friendly.

3.    All matches will be 8 players a side (subject to Overarching Rule 4 below in respect of pairs cricket) unless one team contacts the other no later than 5 days before the game to request an increase in the number of players a side which shall require the agreement of the other side. In matches which are not pairs games, a team may comprise more than the finally determined number of players a side for that match provided that (i) while fielding, no more than that finally determined number of players is on the field at any one time and (ii) the number of wickets to fall when that side bats shall be the same number as for the side with fewer players.

4.    The assumption is that pairs cricket (U10 and U12 softball) matches shall be 8 a side. The specific rules for those matches below govern how to deal with situations where odd numbered sides are fielded or a larger number of players participate.

5.    All league matches MUST be completed on the dates specified on the MJCA Play-Cricket website.

6.    Each team shall provide an umpire and a scorer, who shall not be the same person.

7.    Umpires will discuss and agree a fair and proper interpretation of Rule 7 within the specific U12 hardball, U14 and U15 rules (relating to withdrawal of bowlers for excess height-related no balls). A bowler should only be withdrawn if there is a considered to be a genuine risk of injury to the batter taking into account speed, height and direction of deliveries and their repeated nature, as well as the skill of the striker.

8.    Reporting results: Results of all League matches must be reported by uploading to MJCA Play-cricket. If the home team has not uploaded the result within 5 days after the match, the away team may so upload it.

9.    Points awarded: Played and won – 10; Played and lost – 2; Won by concession – 10; Lost by concession – 0; Tied – 5; Abandoned – 4.

U10 Seaxe Rules

The current Laws of Cricket shall apply except:

1.    The pitch: 16 yards long. The ball: Readers Supaball (junior)

2.    Innings to be of 16 overs – unless otherwise agreed prior to the start of a match.

3.    Each team starts with a score of 200 runs.

4.    The batting team shall be divided into pairs. Each pair shall bat for a number of overs equal to the overall number of overs in an innings divided by the number of pairs – so, where an innings comprises 16 overs and 4 pairs bat, each pair bats for 4 overs.

5.    If a team has 7 players, pairs will bat for 4 overs each and other batters will join the 7th player to make a pair but at no time will any batter be at the crease for more than 1 over more than any other batter. Teams will agree the additional batters on the understanding that these should not constitute the strongest batters in the side in question. If a team comprises more than 8 players, no more than 8 players from that team shall be on the field at the same time when fielding and the 4 pairs batting shall be split between the total number of players on that side provided that no batter will bat for more than 4 overs and as far as possible each girl will bat for the same number of overs. Where more than 8 players appear for both teams, the clubs may discuss whether any adjustments to this Rule 5 and Rule 4 above may apply, while adhering to these principles.

6.    Batters shall have unlimited ‘lives’ but each ‘life’ shall result in 5 runs being deducted from the total. No batter who is out shall face the next ball. Batters shall change ends at the fall of each wicket except if a wicket falls from the last ball of an over.

7.    No bowler may bowl more than one fifth of the overs of a bowling side. At least 7 players must bowl in an innings.

8.    Wides and No Balls shall count as 2 runs plus any runs scored with no extra ball added to the over, except that in the final over of an innings an extra ball will be bowled for each Wide or No Ball bowled in that over. No Ball shall be called by the bowler’s end umpire for any delivery which bounces MORE than twice or rolls along the ground.

9.   No batter shall be given out LBW unless she makes no genuine attempt to play the ball.

10.  No fielder, except the wicket keeper, shall be allowed to field nearer than 11 yards measured from the middle stump of the striker’s wicket, except behind the wicket on the off side.

THE RESULT
The team scoring most runs after deductions for wickets lost shall be the winner.

U12 Seaxe Hardball Rules

The current Laws of Cricket shall apply except:

1.    An 18 yard pitch shall be used for Under 12 matches.

2.    In Under 12 matches no fielder except the wicket keeper and those behind the wicket on the off side shall field nearer than 11 yards measured from the middle stump of the striker’s wicket.

3.    One 4 3⁄4 oz ball in reasonable condition shall be used for Under 12 matches.

4.    Wicket: Under 12s: 27” high and 8” wide.

5.    Matches shall be 20 overs per innings unless otherwise agreed between both teams.

6.    No player may bowl more than one fifth of the overs in any innings.

7.    No Ball shall be called by the bowler’s end umpire for any delivery, bowled without bouncing, above waist height (by reference to the batter’s full standing height at the crease), IRRESPECTIVE OF PACE. If any bowler bowls more than 2 such balls in an innings, the umpires shall consider whether in accordance with Overarching Rule 7 she will be required to cease bowling after the third such delivery (or subsequently), with another bowler completing the over.

8.   No Ball shall be called by the bowler’s end umpire for any delivery which bounces MORE than twice or rolls along the ground.

9.   Wides and No Balls shall count as 2 runs plus any runs scored with no extra ball added to the over, except that in the final over of an innings an extra ball will be bowled for each Wide or No Ball bowled in that over.

10.  When a batter reaches a personal total of more than 30 runs she must retire immediately, unless this would cause a premature end to the innings. Batters retired under this rule may return to the crease but only when the innings would end if not for such return to the crease. If more than one batters retire during an innings, their return to the crease shall be in the order in which they retire. Otherwise, players may only be retired if ill or injured.
