Well done Richmond for beating the Welsh club Lisvane CC in the semi final of the ECB U13 Vitality T20 Semi Final at Wokingham CC. Next up the final at Lords!! Below is a match report.

Richmond won the toss and elected to bowl. Starting in the full heat of the day and being very wary of the Welsh side’s fiery batting lineup, Richmond went to work by imposing their bowling attack on Lisvane. This was a little wayward in the opening overs, but sharpened liked a knight’s sword, as the overs ticked by. A steady fall of wickets and the relentless efforts of the Richmond bowlers, Durling, Spears, Rajamurugan, Wright and Verwey, helped keep Lisvane down to 82 all out after 18.5 overs.

Durling: 2 for 15 off 4

Spears: 1 for 4 off 4

Rajamurugan: 2 for 14 off 4

Wright: 2 for 16 off 3

Verwey: 2 for 18 off 3

With only D Navid (16) and R Rafique (16) getting double figures for Lisvane.

After a much deserved break and time in the shade, Richmond went out to face the fiery fury of Lisvane. This was nothing short of what was expected, as Lisvane’s fielding and bowling was so accurate and fierce, they restricted Richmond to under 40 runs off the first 10 overs with 4 Richmond wickets down. After the water break, the battle resumed with Thomas Verwey and Sebastian Wright at the batting crease for Richmond. Both players used their explosive batting ability to pick out the few loose balls from the mostly very accurate and dangerous Lisvane bowlers, to change the momentum of the battle with some big shots that scored maximum for Richmond. The top scorers for Richmond were Bowles (11), Wright (20) and a matching winning innings by Verwey (31 rnto). Lisvane bowlers deserved more from the contest, with the best being R Rafique on 2 for 10 off 4.

This was a very intense game of cricket, with both sides equally balanced and desperate to win the contest, but on the day, Richmond CC, stayed cool in the heat of the day and battle to secure the win and a place in the final at Lord’s.
