Just over a year ago, Ealing CC were invited to compete in the National Club Cup competition by Action Indoor Cricket England. That opportunity opened the door to the England EPP and, following a tough selection process, six Ealing girls were selected for the preliminary England squad.
Fast forward to September 2026, and five of those girls: Anshi, Lana, Nishka, Sanaa and Suhana, were on a flight to South Africa to
represent England on the world stage. They were heading into a competition featuring the very best young indoor cricket players from England, South Africa, New Zealand, Australia, India, Sri Lanka and Singapore, all competing for the Junior World Series title. And what a performance they produced.
With Australia topping the girls group stage, England faced a formidable New Zealand side in the eliminator, with the winner earning a place in the grand final against Australia. England started brilliantly, and the momentum was firmly with our girls. They produced a superb performance to defeat New Zealand and book their place in the Junior World Series final.
The final was always going to be an enormous challenge. Australia have incredible depth of talent, but our girls gave everything they had. Unfortunately, Australia proved too strong on the day. But coming home as World Silver Medallists from a Junior World Series final is an incredible achievement. 🥈 In fact, this is the first time an England squad of any age group, boys or girls, has reached an indoor world final in 15 years.
These girls have done themselves proud. They have made their families proud, their club proud and, most importantly, have represented England with immense pride and honour. And then there is the experience itself; tournament camp. Games day after day, often twice a day. The pressure. The highs and lows. The nerves. The excitement. New surroundings. New friendships. Singing the National Anthem. The sheer emotion of representing your country.
We also have to mention the Barmy Army! The support these girls received from their families, friends and supporters in the arena and back home was incredible. The girls felt it every step of the way.
But perhaps most importantly, we don’t want this to be a one-off. These five girls have shown that Ealing players can compete with the very best. We hope their journey inspires the next generation of boys and girls from the Middlesex area to step onto the court and dream of wearing the England badge themselves, perhaps in three years’ time in Sri Lanka, when the next Junior World Series takes place.
If anyone has doubts about Indoor Cricket and the opportunities it can create, watch this interview. It will tell you just how incredible and rewarding this journey has been.
